The 2020 National Spelling Bee competition, originally scheduled for May 24, was suspended and later canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, the Spelling Bee ran out of words that might challenge the contestants and ended up having 8 winners. Previous winners are also ineligible to compete.
